If we (the federal government) were really serious about getting our immigration, naturalization, and citizenship acts in order and removing criminals whose crimes were other than being illegally resident in this country, which is arguably among the most victimless of crimes, we wouldn’t need to activate and federalize the National Guard, deploy Marines who might otherwise be training for their real responsibility, or use masked, unidentified purported federal officers without warrants, badges, or proper legal authority. All we’d need is the kind of investigation that law enforcement officers are trained to do, followed by obtaining warrants from a judge and enforced by uniformed, badged, and properly identified officers who would quietly and efficiently arrest and detain the individuals who had broken the law, inform them of their rights and proceed through the legal system that has served us more or less well (on the whole more) for the past 250 years.
The performative and provocative actions of the pseudo-President, Kristi Gnome, Tom Homan, Pete Kegseth, and other federal and state officials (looking at you MAGA Mike Kehoe) are nothing other than political theater and suggest strongly that their interest has nothing to do with immigration at all because there has been no involvement of the puppet Congress in passing any of the required legislation that would enable long-term reform and resolution of the DACA contingent and other people who have lived here for extended periods and, in many cases, have no other place they would recognize as home. That many of the actions are illegal is unquestionable, that they are morally reprehensible is equally not subject to debate, and that they need to stop, now, and not be repeated is the biggest truism of all.
NO KINGS day is about much more than just immigration, but one of the serendipitous outcomes of success on Saturday the 14th and future days will be a return to reasonableness in our approach to the people who come to this country seeking the chance to improve their lives and the future prospects of their families. Much as we all did whenever our ancestors came here. Call your Congresspeople and Senators, tell them to reject the Big B***s*** Bill as it is written and instead of going to recess and taking a nap, pass the Immigration reform bill that Trump told them to reject so he would have an issue to run on then pass the Lewis Voting Rights Act. Maybe then they could take a break and meet with their constituents unafraid of what would happen.
I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the civic responsibilities expected of every American.
just great, Dave
Dave, your definition of the BBB is spot on. There are others who simply call it the "Murder Bill".
Every day I wonder why so many in Congress are not listening to the public who overwhelmingly dislike the Bullshit Bill and don't approve of the Gestapo tactics employed by a VERY unpopular president.
Seems like political suicide to me to oppose funding for Medicaid and Medicare - to sacrifice the care of the poor and elderly so billionaires can get even richer...doesn't it?
If I were into conspiracy theories, I'd float the idea that the Trumpistas have kompromat on each legislator. Could it be they are more than afraid of bring primaries?
Just saying that it's damn weird!
