Donald Trump deserves his day in court. The American people deserve an open, public, recorded resolution of the allegations surrounding the 2020 election and the attack on Congress that took place on Jan. 6, 2021. Both can be achieved by the Select Committee, the NY Attorney General and the Fulton County, GA District Attorney as well as the US Justice Dept. bringing their investigations to a head and presenting the evidence they have that justifies continuing pursuit. If there isn’t such evidence, the investigations should be publicly terminated, and such apologies as may be necessary made. Much has been made of the political impact of these issues and Mr. Trump’s ongoing attack on the integrity of our government and the electoral system and, if his statements are accurate, he should be willing to repeat them under oath and provide evidence that supports them. Such testimony would also exonerate him and his followers by explaining their actions after the election. Trump’s continued unwillingness to document his statements are the actions of someone who is guilty of the sedition and insurrection that he stands accused of. “The guilty flee where no one pursues” is one proverb that we’re all familiar with and Mr. Trump fled long before anyone started pursuing. If he’s interested in a political future, he owes it to the voters to demonstrate his innocence.

That’s admirably evenhanded, and shows a fairness of mind of which we see far too little in political discourse. You and I probably disagree on many things, but I’m behind you on this one.
(ps I’ve been meaning to ask - are you one of the Pinewoods-associated Conants?)
yes, remarkably evenhanded. thing is (as you certainly know) he obviously doesn't WANT that day in court because, by his calculation, he doesn't NEED it, since his people believe whatever he says is true, no matter how nuts. for the obvious reasons you've stated, he almost certainly doesn't WANT it either.
