Candidates, consultants, and sundry other beggars for political financing, please be advised of the following:
1) I know this is the toughest campaign you’ve ever fought against the most determined and formidable opponent you’ve ever faced.
2) I know that if I don’t rush $xxx to your account immediately it will be the end of the world as we know it and you’ll have to find a real job.
3) I know that even though we’ve never met, exchanged emails, texts, or phone calls, you’re counting on me to pull you through this emergency need to beat the next available deadline for fund-raising bragging rights.
4) I know that although you don’t live in my town, county, or even my state, you need wholehearted support from at least 13 people here or point #2 applies.
5) I’m fully aware that the President (or, in the case of GOP beggars, the failed insurrectionist) relies heavily on you to support their agenda and would appreciate my donation not only to your campaign, PAC, or other fund but to theirs as well.
I’ve got all that figured out, and, for the record, I DON’T CARE! I have candidates here, where I live, who I can actually vote for, that I support emotionally, politically, and, to the extent that I can, financially, and I don’t have anything left to send you so please take me off your phone list, your email list, and your mailing list. Save the resources for someone who will be swayed by your pleas and who can give you their vote as well as their money. While you’re at it, take your repetitive ads down from Facebook so I can see what my real friends are posting and get off your a**, go out, and meet some voters. You might find out that people will support you if they know what you stand for and some of you might learn that you’re wasting your time because what you stand for no one wants. It’s bad enough that you don’t hold town hall meetings with your constituents after you’ve been elected, but to be unwilling to meet potential voters face to face while you’re campaigning is, at best, the height of irony. Of all the many ways that our political system is failing, the lack of
personal interaction and engagement between the vast majority of the American people and their notional representatives is the worst. I may not be able or willing to write you a check for multiple thousands or millions of dollars, but my vote can’t be bought with money and the values that will attract my support are far too rare in the crowd you hang out with. What you need is a crash course in retail politics and the ones who take and pass the course the soonest are the ones who’ll win, in November and in the future. Those who aren’t willing to learn, we don’t need.
As expected, well said, Dave. Incessant emails begging for money is not limited to politicians. I hesitate to contribute to a worthwhile cause I support because of the ensuing torrent of similar solicitations almost always soon to follow.
One of my part time jobs is "unsubscribing". Some of the candidates from far away email me twice a day! I want my name back from whoever is selling it.
